One of the hardest things to do is to listen to your voice.
When you are forced to be in a position where all you can hear is yourself, do you like what you hear?
Many do not like to admit that they hate being by themselves. Many may disguise it as “I’m extroverted,” “I love people,” or “I’m not a loner.” Yet, there is power that comes from sitting in this silence.
Take a trip with me.
The Empress
Imagine that the Empress of an Empire refused to be alone.
Imagine that she had to be surrounded by individuals every single second of every single day. She never has the opportunity to sit in complete silence during every waking and sleeping second.
“Impossible,” you may be thinking. “No one can be around others that much! You need time to breathe and think!”
If these are your thoughts, keep reading.
Our Empress never takes time to herself and all she does is listen to others talk and compensate them for their time. Eventually, it may seem impossible to tell who her real friends are from her servants. She may lose sight of what is most important. Even if she, or anyone else, managed to keep someone around for 24 hours a day, eventually, the internal voice would find a way to scream louder. Whether through a feeling or a thought, eventually, something would have to give.
That is where we find ourselves in this day and age.
Many still manage to drown out their internal voice with friends, drugs, alcohol, and sex. Others simply end their lives. Yet, the issue remains. We are so out of touch with ourselves that we allow external parties to determine our lives, even if we don’t realize it.
Let’s say our Empress listened to the challenges within her empire and never took the time to ponder these issues on her own before she started to suggest solutions.
Where would these solutions be coming from, if not from her environment?
How can we guarantee that the decisions and laws being made align with the well-being of all subjects and not the biased opinion of one? How can we trust what she has to say if she does not use the tools at her disposal that require critical thinking?
When there is so much noise externally, quality may not always be at its best standards.
Let’s talk about it
Many lessons and realizations stem from this example alone. I hope that you will consider whatever lessons are coming to mind at this moment. However, let’s think about the scenario.
That Empress represents so many in the world. Numerous people are numb, living on autopilot, and taking every day as it happens to them and not for them.
These people smile to keep surrounding individuals quiet and yet they are eternally unhappy, not caring about what they, or anyone else, thinks. They don’t live. They survive. In this case, it’s not about money or love.
It’s about passion.
You ever look at someone who is just SO HAPPY and you ask yourself why you don’t feel that way? Do you have any regrets in life and drown them out with shoulda, woulda coulda?
What if you could change that?
I’m not here to sell anything to you, but consider it for a moment. What if taking the time to listen to your thoughts and healing could get you there?
I am not a mental counselor or therapist by any means but there is power in listening to our thoughts. When you listen to your innermost thoughts, things you don’t want anyone else to know, you allow your subconscious to release that baggage and clean house.
Spring Cleaning
The start of the Spring season in the U.S. is known as Spring Cleaning. This is the time when Americans decide to take the beginning portion of the season to clean their homes and remove any rubbish that is taking up unnecessary space. By doing so, it clears up their home, removes trash and donatable items, and allows for the space to be used for more effective reasons.
Mentally, the same concept applies.
It’s not about cleaning our minds every once in a while, but being honest and following through with the process consistently. We deal with a lot as humans and as we gain new information, old information and experiences AKA baggage, need to be released, and this is the reason for those thoughts.
They can be very uncomfortable while bringing up memories that should be forgotten. This can happen many times, but the more you dive into these moments, the more you clean up your mental real estate so you can fill it up with more things that are more effective in your world.
The Reality
As I’ve stated before, I am not a mental physician or fancy doctor of the mind. I come to you as an Empress who has dealt with avoiding silence and being alone for decades and I got tired of it. The journey never ends and as long as you are alive, you can never expect cleaning to be done, especially when you’re constantly learning new things and going through different experiences.
As tiresome as it can be, you’ll eventually find yourself being one of those individuals who smile genuinely from the heart, regardless of what life throws at you.
If you want to get more information about how to get your mental health in order, I recommend reaching out to a mental health professional or checking out my blogs for more insight into my journey. I have a whole series on YouTube where I talk about Healing Behind the Scenes and what that looks like for me, things that many people don’t want others to know. I plan on dropping some more videos soon!
